    It’s been over a year now I have 8 inches of growth my hair got really long the bottom is color n old bleach . I cut already 3 inches I couldn’t go short but this stage is making me want to color it again . I’m struggling with the few greys I have but I’m tired of coloring n also scared of allergies now since I haven’t colored in a year . My color is mostly brown n my pattern is coming in very thin and throughout mostly at the crown . Looks like tiny silvers . Now if I do decide to color . Should I use a Demi? Or no?

    I wish people would just do what makes them happy, because negative comments will come no matter what. Some won’t understand you going gray, but on the flipside there’s the “aging gracefully” police who won’t like if you color your hair, and are just as toxic. I even had a “friend” call me out when I got veneers for some of my front teeth after I knocked a corner off one of my incisors. People need to mind their own business. Do as you please, and let others do the same.

    First, I want to say thank you so much for the inspiration you’ve given me to grow out my silvery gray hair. In answer to your question about cutting your hair, you might just try cutting off 3 inches to get rid of the yellow ends. Also, I wanted to suggest, a dry oil mist by OGX, it’s called nourishing coconut oil it’s weightless and it’s a dry oil. It’s only about seven dollars at Target. Spray it on dry hair, It adds shine and it reduces any frizzies. It will give your hair some new life. Also, I was previously a brunette, but still have some darker eyebrows, they have become a little patchy, but I have found that Benefit has a brow, micro filling, pen in light brown that fills in nicely without being too dark or harsh, and for any grays popping out I use Benefit, “precisely, my brow wax”. Like you don’t want any dark, or hard line eyebrows, eyebrows should be soft and frame the eye lightly. Best of luck in your decision we support you no matter what you choose. Again, thank you for all your encouragement. be well!

    I transitioned via the highlight/lowlights/foil method. It was expensive, and there was a brief period-like maybe a couple of weeks between my first and second treatments-where things didn’t look that great. After my second treatment, however, I was delighted with how I looked and how easy the rest of the process went. I used a platinum toner for a while, and when I decided to drop the toning and just let the gray take over, I barely noticed a change. That said, I think the buzz cut or cold turkey methods are the best, but I knew I’d never be able to look at myself in the mirror for all the months it would take to reach my length h and color objectives..

      I'm so glad the highlights/lowlights method worked well for you. My feeling is, whatever works for YOU, is the best way to go gray. For me , it was cold turkey - for my Mom, it was a salon transition - and for my sister, it was the dye strip technique. :-)

    My favorite purple shampoo & conditioner is Loma. It brightens my hair without drying it out and smells good. Sometimes I use a kaolin clay hair mask which helps but it's messy and time consuming so I don't use it that often. I'm curious about metal detox shampoos as I have hard water. I've read about them but haven't tried any, wonder if anyone has had any experience with those.

    I died my hair purple in 2016 or 17 till July 2020 after being called my hubbys mother 3 times in 6 months. My natural brunette hair was going grey at that time and was around the 20% ish point. It was the point where the greying makes us look old. Then, in Jamuary 2021, I was just done with dying, and my roots were showing closer to the 40% to 50% grey. That, to me, is the beautiful phase. I got some purple shampoo, which dulled the red in the purple dye and brought out the greys and whites. Also it dulled or blended the demarcation line enough to make is less shocking and more intentional. Now, one thing i had to consider is that I have waist length hair that hubby adored, thus limiting the greying options to only the grow out method. I'm now about to turn 54 in 18 days or so, and this next haircut will remove the last 3 inches of the purple, leaving my length mid back around bra strap long. My hair is now close to 60% grey and beautiful. I'm in love with jt because i now have highlights and lowlights in what to me was just boring brown. It might have taken 3.5 years to grow out, but it has been fun. One thing that was weird is that the texture changed. I now have some waves and curlishes when before greying, it was all line straight. The best advice i can tell others is to just take the plunge. My cousin, who is 10 years older than me, loved my hair and wishes she'd done it earlier with hers.

    I keep mine collarbone length. Every summer , I get tempted to cut it short and be done. But I love the ease of a quick updo or pony tail in the heat and humidity. It takes longer to shampoo , condition BUT , I don’t need to get up , shampoo and style every single morning. My hair is thick , wavy and it just will not cooperate with whatever dream styles I see with shorter hair. Plus I’m not that handy with or eager to spend time and energy styling every day. If things were different, I would cut it. But I Always end up growing out short styles and it’s a misery I don’t want to experience again.

    I went cold turkey and encountered many negative remarks. Then I internalized them, felt like an ugly duckling for nearly three years. Pretty hair clips, gray scrunchies , brighter lipstick were my crutches. My hair is past my shoulders and I knew I didn’t want to deal with growing out a pixie. So I trimmed every 8 weeks, cried a little along the way. Had it not been for Sharon Danley Going Gray and Loving It group , I would never have made it. But it was worth every miserable moment. No more chemical dyes every three weeks , dry rough hair. It’s like Freedom and honestly , i think I look better with light silver hair. My husband loves it too.

    Miserable today!!!! Been growing out my grey/silver for the past 3 months and I’ve been really proud of it!! Then yesterday my step family came round and felt the need to ask why I don’t go to the hairdressers and get it died grey if that’s what I aiming to do. Honestly I know I have demarcation and the died hair is brassy, but I’ve personally been happy because I thought it looked more like the sun had highlighted it. I know I have a long way to go but I did think I would get even a single compliment from someone who would say they could imagine what it’s going to look like when it’s fully grown out. The silver will suit my complexion so much more. Still it’s pulled me down quite a lot and I’m just going to pick myself up again and carry on ❤

    I needed to hear this especially the mortality topic. I am 43 and working on being ok with going grey. I've realized that I am so sad to give up my life as a brunette (and sometimes red head). I haven't come to terms with spending the second half of life with just one hair color - grey. Which I know technically isn't true but seems daunting.

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum 10 дней назад

      I know what you mean - I felt that way for so long. I was very invested in my green-eyed brunette identity. But to my surprise, I don't miss it! You might be surprised, too (but no pressure - everyone has to do this on their own time - or never - whatever works)! The nice thing is that your natural hair will probably change over time (if and when it loses pigment). And some people play wtih wash-out colors - I'll be doing some videos about that soon. You have lots of options!

  • @EmilyEmilyEmily01
    @EmilyEmilyEmily01 12 дней назад

    After watching so many videos the past week I have decided to go for ashy brown and start cutting my hair a few inches each visit. I just can't commit to grey yet. I tried and hated how I looked but I can't afford to have what I really want - my natural dark hair. It's going to show grown within weeks and I can't commit to covering that either. So the lighter brown seems it may help me ease into the grey and when I feel 100% about it I can cut a pixie and it won't take much to get rid of the remaining brown. I appreciate how many videos are out there explaining options though

    ❤ I’m going to go with don’t chop it off. I also hate hair touching my face with a bob etc. I love seeing my long grey hair in all the colors and textures it chooses to do for me as it grows. And so many styling options. I don’t have the hang of what styles I could try or would work with my hair. Also I have chronic illnesses that sap my energy and cause pain. Making doing different styles draining or impossible. I’m considering getting a blow dryer. Joli recommended a good one recently. But I haven’t used heat or any styling tools in over 15 years. I do enjoy playing with my hair and I will braid sometimes. Mostly it’s up in a bun or just down and not done any specific style. I will be subscribing to see what you come up with and maybe you’ll inspire me. Your hair is beautiful and I think you will be sad if you cut it off. @@KatieGoesPlatinum Hmmm... well that IS odd! Re the Europe thing, maybe I'm assuming as the email tracking says at the top in a logo... Asendia by La Poste and Swiss Post. By that I thought it was coming from Europe because it also had a lot of jargon in the email about Canada Customs CBSA, and "transacting customs" blah blah?? But I know that America considers Canada "International" so it could just be that. And I may still have to pay duty over a certain amount, we'll see. I did contact the company and haven't heard back yet. Purchased 24th, nothing since but it was a weekend. Anyway the Eye Embrace, I just tried your link and clicked Brows and still says "no results, use fewer filters or clear all".... I did clear all but no luck. I also went to the website and the same result. Not sure why? It is Mercury Retrograde though and that affects electronic things, so... lol who knows! Like me getting an email that said you loved my comment before you did! 😂🤷‍♀ I will let you know how I like them!

    Idk if they look "younger" necessarily, but they all do look better. Maybe bc the hair dye wasn't complimentary to their complexions. That's an important question... Do we want to look like we're trying to look younger... or Do we want to look like our best most vibrant version of ourselves as we age?

    Hi Katie - new subscriber & I laughing out loud! You could be describing me and the conversation I have with my 'Type A' self OFTEN. My hair, too, needs the weight to keep it from flipping out at the bottom, and when I cut it even to chin length it becomes very wavy. My suggestion to you is to simply have the bottom 'yellowing' few inches cut off and leave it long.. I now air dry my hair for the reason and leave it long, or - my favorite - pull it back into an elegant low ponytail. Don't cut it 'short' - you look beautiful and a trim will take care of the yellowing ends. You will hate the fuss of short hair - trust me....much more upkeep and 'fuss'. Thanks for this and your 'product' video - great!

    If the hair turns yellow, is there a way to get rid of it? Purple shampoo for instance?

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum 18 дней назад

      Yes! Purple shampoo can help tone down the yellow. Here's a video that explains more about it in detail (and provides some alternatives): ruclips.net/video/tRvZJvAqwW4/видео.html

    What about purple shampoo?

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum 18 дней назад

      You shouldn't need purple shampoo when you first go gray. Purple shampoo's only purpose is to reduce yellow tones in gray hair and usually that builds up over time. That doesn't mean you can't use it, but it's not usually necessary. You can find out more here: ruclips.net/video/tRvZJvAqwW4/видео.html

    I am going grey because it seems I need it colored weekly...I'm in the phase/phrase...I'm over it...that includes coloring my hair...Im just going to let it grow out...I heard it will take 2 years

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum 18 дней назад

      I understand feeling over it! Whether or not it takes two years depends on how long you want your hair to be and how quickly your hair grows. I wanted my hair to be shoulder length, and my hair grows much faster than average and it took me a little over 2 years.

    Do not forget about us men, some of us we go through precisely the same situation. With the pressure added that if you go grey from dyed hair people will then realise that your hair is dyed and there is still a taboo for men.

    Yes I do spend weeks talking myself in or out of cutting my long hair, I’m transitioning to grey and yo yo between carrying on or giving in to having colour. My hair was fairly long and I felt it looked a bit witch like so I’ve had it cut to shoulder length. It’s fine but I prefer long hair but I agree with all your negative points too! At the moment the hair on my crown is very white making my pink scalp more visible which I really don’t like. I’m trying to hang on to see what happens when I’m finally all grey!! Perhaps that will change. This is not an easy process and I keep wanting to give in to re colouring but I’m fed up the time and expense. But will I just look like a little old lady!!! 😂 Your honest comments made me laugh and struck a chord. Very helpful so thanks 🙏

      Sorry - I used to have little metal disks on my front porch to keep birds from hitting our windows (and getting killed). I realized they were distracting so I took them down but have to find another solution (luckily, no birds have hit the windows since). Still haven't figured that out. But if you see my current videos you'll notice the flashing is gone :-)

      Oh, for sure. As I say in the video they can be very drying. My favorites don't include sulfates. I avoid sulfates like the plague.
